ANGHIARI - Main Monuments

The "Propositura" and its great works of art
Built between 1628 and 1747 and externally reconstructed several times, the church does not present notable characteristics if not inside where almost framed in a presbytery arch, you will find a polychrome woodworking from the thirteenth century representing the "Madonna of Loreto" attributed to Tino da Camaino.

Directly behind the statue there are three boards, today divided, but at one time forming the partitions of a trilogy by Matteo di Giovanni (1430-1495).

Behind the altar you will find the "Madonna delle Grazie", glass encased terracotta from the shop of Andrea della Robbia.

Other valuable and relevant works are the two paintings of Giovanni Sogliani and "Deposition" of Puligo, considered by Vasari, to be one of the best works of this student of Ridolfo di Domenico Ghirlandaio.

In front of the church the old street of Del Fosso ( today Via Trieste) opens, where until the end of the seventeenth century, houses were built against the same wall as the villiage.

The street was built filling the moat that defended the walls of the castle.
