Sorci
The "spirit" of Baldaccio. Among the castles which defended the right side of Sovara we should remember those of Valialle (dating back to the year 1000, there are only but a few walls left), Casale, Upachi (with its lovely church), and Scoiano (where remains of the main door, and pieces of frescos, reveal its important past).
On the opposite hill you will find instead the Castle of Sorci. In 1268 it was destroyed by the hands of some German soldiers who were on the trail of Corradino of Svevia, in war against Carlo of Angiò. Then, subject to the Florentine domination, it was the residence of the captain of adventure Baldaccio of Anghiari.During its time the Fort accounted for about thirty armed guards in an unsurpassable wall and moat.
In the centuries tat followed the castle undertook restorations, up until assuming the aspect of a 1600's villa in which even now the tower can be seen. Transformed into a farm, today the Castle of Sorci hosts one of the restaurants most typical in Italy, well known for its celebrities that come there. Its rooms have inspired scenes from the film " Non ci resta che piangere" with Roberto Benigni and Massimo Troisi, who at the time stayed in the Caslte Sorci while filming.
On summer nights, under the stars, to some, it seems you can hear the clanking of armor of Baldaccio, whose ghost comes alive in his antique castle.
